My Coinages
Terms that I have coined (independently, though presumably someone may have coined them elsewhen.)
- Eduministration -The administration of and bureaucracy associated with educational institutions
- Obi - short for "Obedient," a somewhat less pejorative term used to describe the Nietzschean herd
- iTech - Instructional Technology, the discipline of, or a department of, using technology, computer and otherwise, for teaching
- VDI - Video-Dramatic Imperative - my term for the concept that Televisual media must privilege visual presentation over words,and emotionally charged dramatic character and narrative over rational argument
Industry jargon and other frequent terms
- FUD - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt
- IRL and RL - In Real Life, Real Life
- LAC - Liberal Arts College
- LMS - Learning Management System, formerly known as Courseware or Course Management System; software used in education for online course content. e.g. Moodle, Blackboard, Sakai
- SL - Second Life, the online multi-user virtual environment
- Televisual - although first appearing in the 1930s as an adjective meaning "as on television," I used the term in a more general sense to refer to the experience of all visual media experienced non-interactively at a distance (tele-) from its original place and time, including the photograph, film, television, and computer based digital broadcast.
